Collecting Funko Pops sounds pretty straightforward.

You find the ones you want, you buy them, and then you wait impatiently for them to arrive.

Right? 😂

Well… I’ve recently discovered that building a Funko Pop collection, there can be a few more twists and turns along the way!

📦 The delivery I wasn’t expecting

I recently ordered two Power Rangers Funko Pops from eBay, and I was really excited to add them to my collection. But when they arrived, I was gobsmacked. Both boxes were badly damaged. They were squashed, with parts of the boxes almost coming open. I’m absolutely okay with a few marks, scratches, worn corners or signs that the box has been handled before. After all, these are pre-owned collectibles. But these boxes were beyond what I was expecting.

For a collector, the box is part of the collectible. It’s not just something to throw away. Unfortunately, the damage was bad enough that I ended up getting a refund. What a shame…

And then I tried to bid…

Around the same time, I decided to try bidding on another Power Rangers Funko Pop.

I was actually winning! I was watching the auction and thinking, “Yes! I might actually get this one!”

Then, right at the very last second, someone placed another bid…

And just like that… I lost it. 😭 I didn’t even get a chance to put another bid in.

At first, I was thinking, “Wait… what just happened?!” — But it’s how I discovered how eBay bidding works.

Learned the hard way that winning an auction before the timer runs out doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve won the item! Someone can come in at the last moment and take it.

That’s the thing about collecting…

There are definitely highs and lows.

Sometimes you find exactly what you’ve been looking for, maybe you get a bargain or your delivery arrives looking like it has been sat on. 😂 And sometimes you think you’ve won an auction… only to lose it in the final seconds.

But I suppose that’s all part of the fun.

And honestly, I think that’s what makes collecting interesting.

You learn as you go.

From now on, I’ll be checking seller feedback, looking carefully at photographs and reading descriptions a little more closely.

And when it comes to auctions? Well… now I know to be ready for those final few seconds! 😂
